Faith and water
I found it interesting how the main character was always compared to water..she had "water in her eyes." Water is inconsistant..sometimes rushing and sometimes still..a lot like faith.
Water is where life sprang from, what shaped the earth and carved the canyons, it can be a soothing sound or tranquil lake or it can be vicious and unyirelding..waves crashing over your head, tsunamis devastating cities and flooding that kills all of life around it.
From the Western point of view, the Bible, water can be viewed as the Alpha and the Omega, seperated from eachother...dualism. Water is blessed to become wine, holy water baptizes a child.
But this movie shows us the Taoist philospohy.. one cannot know either without the other. They compliment each other and allow us to know the true meaning of the other. It is a cycle. One is neither better or worse than the other..just different states of the same being. Water cann't be still without being a rushing river.
The girl with water in her eyes has faith throughout her jouney in life but it was tested. Like water, sometimes her faith was strong..she had goals and knew what she wanted from life, but at other times she was weak and still in her emotions...giving up and placing a facade on her face. Entertaining and laughing but she was empty inside.
Disclaimer: I have to admit I am not a big fan of how the end all be all was some man and whe she got him, all was happy. But whatever..I guess we all want to be saved?? But maybe we can save ourselves by leading a good life and not waiting for some man to complete it. Do I sound bitter?
